《雨巷》寫(xiě)于1927年夏天，血腥的“四·一二”大屠殺之后。詩(shī)人時(shí)年22歲。曾因投身革命而被捕的詩(shī)人，面對(duì)籠罩全國(guó)的白色恐怖，在痛苦中陷于彷徨迷惘。他隱居在江蘇松江朋友家，孤獨(dú)中嚼味著“在這個(gè)時(shí)代做中國(guó)人的苦惱”，“夜坐聽(tīng)風(fēng)，晝眠聽(tīng)雨”，在陰霾中盼望飄起絢麗的彩虹�？缮钬毞�，整天“窗頭明月枕邊書(shū)”，詩(shī)人只能在“舊時(shí)的腳印”、“青春的彩衣”和星光下的盤(pán)桓中尋求慰藉。個(gè)性的輕柔、憂(yōu)郁和時(shí)代的重壓，使《雨巷》成為現(xiàn)實(shí)黑暗和理想幻滅在詩(shī)人心中的投影，貯滿(mǎn)了彷徨失望和感傷痛苦的情緒。
