Started happening earthquake site is called the source, the source above the ground is called the epicenter, the ground of the devastating earthquake is the most strong place is called the magistoseismic area, while the magistoseismic area often is the place where the epicenter. 　　自從2008年我們四川發(fā)生5.12大地震之后，我就特別害怕地震，我覺得地震會震垮很多房屋，會讓許多人失去生命，是世界上最可怕的災(zāi)難。今天我看了《中國少年兒童百科全書》后，才真正知道地震是怎么回事。

　　原來，地震是突然間發(fā)生的大地震動現(xiàn)象，就像刮風(fēng)、下雨一樣，是一種很普遍的自然現(xiàn)象。地球上的震動實際上非常頻繁，大概每30秒種就會有一次，但大多數(shù)都非常緩和，人們都沒有感覺。我們能感覺到的地震是由于地球板塊之間產(chǎn)生相對運動，巖石層受到嚴重擠壓，產(chǎn)生巨大的能量使巖石在瞬間發(fā)生斷裂，或者使原來已經(jīng)存在的斷裂突然活動，釋放出大量能量，而其中一部分能量傳到地球表面，使大地劇烈地顫動，從而引起強烈地震。地震開始發(fā)生的地點稱為震源，震源上方的地面稱為震中，破壞性地震的地面最烈處稱為極震區(qū)，而極震區(qū)往往就是震中所在的地方。地震發(fā)生時，震源發(fā)出的在地殼中傳向四面八方的沖擊波稱為地震波。地震波沖擊到地面，就會引發(fā)災(zāi)難。

　　我們中國人非常聰明，早在東漢時期，就有一位叫張衡的科學(xué)家發(fā)明了用來觀測地震的侯風(fēng)地動儀，而我們現(xiàn)代的科學(xué)家也一般都借助地震儀來測量地震波的傳播速度，判斷地震發(fā)生的地點和時間。

　　知道了地震知識以后，還要學(xué)習(xí)地震發(fā)生前的提前預(yù)警和自我保護方法，我想，了解到這些知識對我們自己是非常有用的。
