　　The Princess and the PeaThere was once a prince,who led a happy life.One day his father said to him,"I'm getting old.When I die,you will make a good king.But you need a queen.Find yourself a wife!"So the prince traveled around the world to find a princess,but it had to be a real princess.Yes,there were lots of princess,but none of them seemed real,there was always something wrong,and so he came home very troubled.One evening,a knock came on the door.The old king himself went to open it.Before him stood a princess.The king hurried her inside.The-prince liked the princess very much,and he wished with all his heart that she was a real princess.The queen also wanted to make sure,and she had an idea.She took a pea from the kitchen and put it under the mattress.Then she put several other mattresses on top of it.The princess was to sleep right at the top.The princess was very tired from the day.After sup-per she went straight to bed,but she couldn't sleep.The pea under the mattresses dug into her so hard that by morning she was black and blue.Only a real princess could be so sensitive.How happy the prince was.Now the most beautiful princess had come to him.They had a wonderful wedding,but the pea was put in a glass box,where it can still be seen to-day.

　　參考譯文：豌豆上的公主從前有個(gè)王子,過著快樂的生活。有一天他的父親對(duì)他說:“我越來越老了。我死了,你要當(dāng)個(gè)好國(guó)王。你要有個(gè)王后,你自己去找吧!”于是王子周游世界去找公主,她必須是位真正的公主。的確,世上有許多公主,但似乎都不是真正的公主,總是有一些不盡人意的地方,所以他十分煩惱地回到了家。一天晚上,傳來了一陣敲門聲。老國(guó)王親自去開門。站在他面前的正是一位公主!老國(guó)王趕緊請(qǐng)她進(jìn)來。王子非常喜歡這位公主,滿心希望她是位真正的公主。王后也想證實(shí)一下她是不是真正的公主,便想出了一個(gè)主意。王后從廚房取來一粒豌豆放在床墊下,然后再鋪上幾張床墊,公主將要睡在這上面。公主走了一天,已十分疲倦,晚飯后就徑直上了床,可是她卻睡不著。床墊下的豌豆十分堅(jiān)硬,早上起床時(shí),她已被硌得青一塊紫一塊的了。只有真正的公主才會(huì)如此嬌嫩敏感。王子是多么的幸福啊!最美麗的公主來到了他的身邊!他們舉行了盛大的婚禮。那顆豌豆卻被以在了一個(gè)玻璃盒里,至今還能看得見呢。
